After the recent arrest of a sex offender who failed to register, we thought we would update the public on just how many registered sex offenders we have in Calaveras County.
As it turns out, Valley Springs area has the largest number living among them, with a current total of 15, according to the Megan's Law website.
Next on the list in number is District 2, which includes Railroad Flat, Mountain Ranch, West Point and Wilseyville. They currently have 11.
The Angels Camp area, including Vallecito, comes next with 5.
San Andreas, Murphys (including Douglas Flat), the Arnold area and Copper each have 2.
Everyone we have spoken with believes this number to be far too high, but the real problem is that how many, like the one arrested for not registering, are also living in the County and have yet to be caught?
