The Angels Camp Museum will present as part of their lecture series a special lecture on the history of the Altaville Schoolhouse at the schoolhouse site.
The Altaville Schoolhouse is believed to be the oldest surviving schoolhouse in California. The one-room schoolhouse was built in 1858
and is a California Historical Landmark and listed in the National Registry of Historic Places.

Our guest speaker will be Kathy Northington, Calaveras County Superintendent of Schools. Also in attendance will be some local residents who once attended this school, and will talk about their memories.
The schoolhouse was in continuous operation from 1858 to 1950 and has since been carefully restored. It is located on Hwy 49, near the intersection of Hwy 4.
Tickets are available the night of the lecture, Thursday, August 2, 2012, starting at 6:30 PM with refreshments, and cost $10 each. Museum members are free.
Proceeds go to the Angels Camp Museum Foundation to aid the Museum.
