At around 3:30 PM July 11, 2012 a fire was reported near the North Fork of the American River near Foresthill. CalFire now has the fire 70% contained after 2650 acres were destroyed. Only 1 home and 4 outbuildings were lost as of 7:30 AM July 18, 2012.
The spread has been halted, as we have had cooler nights and days in Placer County.
Evacuations of 170 homes had taken place in that area.he fire. There have been twelve firefighters injured.
CalFire reports that the fire is still burning in an area with very heavy brush, and steep terrain, but slowed down during the night.
Authorities believe it may have been caused by fireworks, but the cause is still under investigation.
