William "Bill" John Riedel, of Murphys, passed away at Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas on July 23, 2012. He was 78.
A native of Murphys, he and his parents Buster and Rose Riedel owned and operated Murphys Central Market for 30 years.
Bill was a member of Ophir Bear Mountain Masonic Lodge #33 in Murphys, and of Native Sons of the Golden West in Murphys.
He was a former Board Member of Murphys Sanitary District and Union Public Utility District in Murphys.
He was also the former Chief, Board Member and fire-fighter for Murphys Fire Department and a member of the Angels Gun Club, along with being a former member of the Calaveras County School Board.
Bill is survived by his children Hayden (Melissa) Riedel of Vallecito, Will Riedel of Murphys and Wendy (George) Glessman of Murphys, five grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A memorial will be held on Saturday August 4, 2012 at 2 PM at the Angels Gun Club in Angels Camp.
Private Inurnment will be at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.
