On July 31, 2012 at approximately 12:40 PM Calaveras Sheriff's deputies were conducting a burglary follow-up investigation near a residence on the 1400 block of Ridge Road in Railroad Flat.
During the investigation they observed a Jeep being driven by Carlos Nunez (30) of Railroad Flat, pull into the driveway of the residence.
An alleged suspect in the burglary investigation, Johnny Miller (22) of Railroad Flat, was a passenger in the Jeep.
The deputies approached the Jeep to speak with Miller. Upon contacting Nunez the deputies discovered that he had a suspected methamphetamine smoking pipe (with residue) on his person.
Nunez was determined to be under the influence of a narcotic substance. During the investigation the deputies found that the Jeep did not have a license Plate or a VIN plate.
Officers of the California Highway Patrol were called to the scene to inspect the vehicle and found that the Jeep had been reported stolen from a Railroad Flat residence in 2011.
Both Nunez and Miller were booked into the Calaveras County Jail on the charges listed below. At the time Miller was booked, a live rifle ammunition cartridge was found in his pocket.
Carlos Nunez: 10851 CVC (felony), 11364 H&S (misdemeanor) and 23152 a CVC (misdemeanor).
Johnny Miller: 30305 a 1 PC (felony), 4574PC (felony), 11375 b 2 H&S (misdemeanor), 11550 H&S (misdemeanor) and a felony arrest warrant and two misdemeanor arrest warrants for violation of probation.
