Chips Fire Continues to Grow

  August 22, 2012 at 11:30 PM:  The Chips Fire in the Plumas Naitonal Forest is now very near the banks of beautiful Lake Almanor, as you can see by the new map above.

     The total acres burned now is 63,147, and while the containment is listed at 40%, Prattville and other small towns along the Lake are under mandatory evacuations.

   A community meeting is planned for tomorrow in Westwood.  Hwy 89 continues to be closed in the area of the fire.

    The Chief of the Forest Service, Tom Tidwell, visited the fire zone Wednesday, along with his staff, to assess the incident..
