August 21, 2012 at 9:30 PM: The new total acres of burned forest in the Chips Fire, which is in Plumas/Lassen National Forest, is 62,541 with 31% containment.

There were numerous spor fires over the containment lines during the day today. Hwy 89 was closed due to heavy smoke and firefighter activity in the area at 8 PM..
