While we have many differing views from the mvs.commers, we have to admit that Colleen Platt persistently and honestly puts the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors in their place, since they have revised the Public Comment section of the agenda to benefit themselves.
At their most recent meeting on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, she again said that they are discouraging people from being able to make public comments when they give a short time at the beginning and then make them wait til the end, possible 7 or 8 hours later to speak.
She's not mentioning what we know as the reasons why, however. Tom Tryon, Gary Tofanelli and Steve Wilensky are in difficult, close runoffs in November.
They have all the time to campaign from their positions on the other side of the podium, and all three do it regularly.
The public gets 3 minutes each, and that's it. Does this give the incumbents a leg up. You bet it does. They don't want to hear the criticism that the public feels they deserve on camera/
When Gary Tofanelli was criticized for the Hwy 26 and 12 intersection, he not only spent 15 minutes campaigning from his chair, but brought in a Public Works employee to try and back him up.
Does this seem like corruption to you, as it does to us? If the public only gets three minutes, then the elected official should only get three minutes.
Not these elected officials. You can't shut any of them up, but they complain about the public speaking out constantly.
NO INCUMBENTS! NO to Tryon. NO to Tofanelli and NO to Wilensky's clone.
