Gunfire at Moran and Love Creek

A resident reported hearing gunfire at Moran and Love Creek Rd in the Hwy 4 corridor.

No indication was given if the shooters were located. A Calaveras County Sheriff's deputy wrote that no report was taken.

We asked what the law about firearms actually states; Sgt Chris Hewitt at the Sheriff's Department, who is always helpful when we ask, wrote it out for us:

9.12.030 - Firing within one hundred fifty yards of certain buildings....
It is unlawful for any person, other than the owner, person in possession of the premises, or a person having the express written permission of the owner or person in possession of the premises, to discharge any firearm (as defined in California Penal code section 12001.1 b within one hundred fifty yards  of any occupied dwelling, house, residence, or other building or any barn or other outbuilding used in connection therewith.

The one hundred fifty yard area is a "safety zone".

We thank Sgt Hewitt for the information.
