Pass Fire in Mendocino National Forest

   August 20, 2012 at 7:30 PM About 10 miles northeast of the Covelo-Williams Valley, in the Mendocino National Forest, the Pass Fire, which started on Saturday, August 18, 2012, is now 5700 acres.

   Caused by lightning, this fire is in such steep terrain that access is nearly impossible. The fire is crowning, and long-range spotting is occuring with rapid rates of spread and extreme fire behavior.

   The fire is 10% contained at this time.
