UPDATE: As of August 17, 2012 at 7 PM the Reading fire has consumed 27,777 acres. It is 32% contained at this point, at a cost of $10, 800,000.

As of August 16, 2012, the Reading fire is 25, 242 acres and growing. It is 25% contained at this time. This fire was caused by lightning, and they have used large amounts of torching (setting backfires) in order to attempt containment.
All USFS roads and trails, including the Pacific Crest Trail, within the park are closed, as are parts of Hwy 44 and 89 in the area.
