CHP reports a traffic accident in Burson left one with major injuries this evening, August 5, 2012. The accident occurred at Hwy 12 and Burson Road.
The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office was also dispatched. Elijah R. Nhy, 24 of Lodi was driving a 2003 Ford westbound on Hwy 12, just east of Burson Road at approximately 40-45 mph and approaching a bicycle, driven by Jack Costa of Burson from behind.
The bicyclist was traveling on the westbound shoulder of Hwy 12 just east of burson Road. Nhy removed his shirt and wiped the sweat from his eyes. As he wiped the sweat from his eyes, he allowed the Ford to turn northbound and enter the shoulder where the bicyclist was traveling.
Consequently, the front of the Ford collided witht he bicycle. Costa was ejected off his bike and sustained major injuries.
He was air-flighted to Modesto Memorial Hospital.
