UPDATE: September 17, 2012 at 8 AM: According to the CHP, around 10 AM on September 15, 2012, Harry Carnes, 33, of Lincoln, who was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcyle and Cristiana Stomme, 46, who was driving a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle were traveling eastbound on Hwy 4 at a moderate rate of speed.
Carnes was approxemately 15 feet ahead of Stomme as they were coming down a moderate grade in the roadway and approaching a sharp curve.
At the start of the curve there are a couple of signs indicating that there is a sharp cure approaching.
As the two motorcycles approached the curve, Gregory Dwyang, 46, of Sacramento was driving his 2012 Honda Pilot, approaching the same curve, traveling westbound on Hwy 4.
Per CHP Carnes didn't really remember what happened, but it appears, based on physical evidence and statements, that hhe may have misjudged the approaching curve, and applied his brakes.
When he did so his rear wheel locked up and began to fishtail. Carnes lost control of his bike and west down and into the opposing lane.
As this was occurring, Stomme, who was traveling very close to Carnes, had little to no time to react. She slammed on her brakes and veered to the right to avoid Carnes and lost control of her bike, going down.
Carnes, who was now down in the roadway and sliding into the opposing lane slid right into the front end of Dwyang's Honda.
Carnes and Stomme received minor injuries and refused treatment, saying they would seek their own aid.
Dwyang was not injured.
