Calaveras Community Foundation Grant Supports Youth Tickets for Ovations 2013 Performing Artists Series
The Calaveras Arts Council (CCAC) announces that the Calaveras Community Foundation awarded them $1500 to fund Ovations Performing Arts 2013 Series tickets to youth 18 years and younger.
Youth may attend free of charge the March 3, 2013 performance of the Felici Piano Trio. The performance will be held at the Dr. Elliott Smart Performing Arts Center, Bret Harte High School Theater, 323 Highway 49, Angels Camp, CA 95221.
The Calaveras Arts Council was founded in 1981 with two initial key objectives; bring artists into the local schools, and make classical music available to residents and guests throughout the county.
These noble goals have evolved to the Arts in Ed Program which brings artists into the k-1 schools and the winter performing artist series, Ovations.
Once called Calaveras Classics, Ovations each year brings to the stage performing artists in dance and music. Dance can be ballet, Irish Step Dancing, Tap, or Flamingo, and music can be range from cowboy Celtic, pop, and ragtime but always a classical music performance is in the mix.
The Community Foundation grant will marry the two original goals of the arts council, arts education for youth with a classical performance of piano, violin, and cello.
Mary Jane Genochio, Executive of the Calaveras Arts Council, says that "this is one of the most exciting and ambitious Arts in Ed/Ovations offering we have on our plate.
The performance is intended to not only be entertaining but to also introduce students to an art form they might not seek out.
However, artists from other styles of music usually say they got their start with classical music. It lays the foundation for growth and creativity".
