Dear Editor:
In 2007 the people in Jenny Lind district had a chance to vote for a Bond to finance the new Veterans Community Hall.
We were asked to vote
$20 per year tax for no more than 10 years per improved parcel in our area.
At $20 per year x 10 years we were asked to pay $200 to finance the Veterans Community Hall.
$20 per year divided by 12 = $1.67 per month.
$1.67 per month divided by 30 = a little less than 6 cents per day.
When we voted the Bond down, the Veterans turned to private financing and donations to begin construction on the Veterans Community Center.
After 2 years the shell and inside walls have been completed.
$350,000 to $400,000 is needed to complete the Veterans Community Center.
I personally believe that our veterans, who have defended our freedom and our country deserve better.
I believe now is the time to step forward and support our veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.
I am personally giving my $200 to help our Veterans complete the Veterans Community Center.
Also I will give all my loose change, when I empty my pockets at the end of the day, until the Center is finished. (loose change can add up fast-$10 to $15 per month)
I challenge all our citizens to save their loose change to complete the Veterans Community Center. We always come to the aid of others, now we need to support our Veterans and Community.
It isn't about how much you give, but that you give. As per Andy Ballantyne, there is a fund with the county and the Jenny Lind Veterans Memorial District located at 189 Pine Street in Valley Springs.
You can drop off your donations to Karyn Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This is the time of year when people come together to give thanks for what they have.
