October 5, 2012 at 1:10 PM: CHP reports that Helen C. Stephens, of Arnold was driving a 2001 Durango on Hwy 49 at Cosgrave outside Angels Camp in the westbound lane at approximately 50-55 MPH.
For unknown reasons Stephens allowed the Durango to drift ot the left, cross into the southbound lane without slowing.
Due to Stephens failure to maintain the vehicle in the right lane, it collided almost head-on into a rock embankment.
This impact caused the Durango to flip over onto its right side where it began sliding in a north-westerly direction.
The Durango ran off the road and then collided into a metal paddle marker, contined and then rolled over down a steep dirt embankment.
After all impacts, the Durango came to rest on the west shoulder facing south-east, according to the CHP report.
The driver and passenger, Gary Stephens of Arnold were transported to Mart Twain Hospital with minor injuries.
