Make Uptown Pay for Downtown Parking?

  Listen Up, Angels Camp!!

The City Council of Angels Camp in all its wisdom is passing Ordinace 455, called the Off-Street Parking Ordinance at their next meeting November 20, 2012.

The City Council does not even try to deny that this is their way of helping their favorite landlords
in the downtown area get more parking for their customers.

Here's how it works. If you want to build a new building for your business, you will be required to provide for MUCH more parking than you will actually need.

But, instead of building all those parking spots, you can donate money to a fund that the City and its downtown landlords buddies can use to tear down old houses and create parking lots so their customers will have a place to park.

Now, why is it the owners of these downtown buildings are not required to create their own parking;  One answer we received was:

"Well, Anne Forrest has done a lot for us." Yep, this is Angels Camp, all right! Get used to it, or close up and leave like at least three businesses in the past month have done.  The Good 'Ol Boy party begins with the City Council.
