We don't think anyone present understood what District 5 Supervisor Darren Spellman was talking about when he compared the Central Sierra Economic Development Council (CSERC) to Halloween at
the December 18, 2012 Board of Supervisors meeting. They weren't alone!
Spellman made several statements in a row about his "philisophical" disapproval of Halloween, and how he felt buying candy to "...rot his kids teeth" and having to buy "...costumes " went against his "philosophical" beliefs.
Also he stated that he felt if he didn't comply that his house would be "egged" or in other ways vandalized.
As Supervisor Spellman continued to reiterate his disapproval over and over, there didn't seem to be any real connection to Halloween with the agenda item and the other Supervisors began laughing to themselves and each other.
Then both Supervisor Tofanelli and Wilensky made jokes about the rant Spellman had made.
While we attempted to get the connection with his dislike of Halloween to CSERC, none of it made any sense to us. Nothing unusual for Spellmans' rants.
Since he has begun worrying about his re-election, does he really believe things like that will help him get re-elected?
