A 1996 GMC Sierra, driven by last name of Baker of Valley Springs, was eastbound on Hwy 12 at Hillcrest Drive at approximately 60 mph.
For unknown reasons, the Freightliner was allowed to travel to the left of the painted solid double yellow lines, into the eastbound lanes, directly into the path of the GMC.
The GMC observed the Frieghtliner traveling towards the GMC and steered the GMC to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision.
The left front of the Frieghtliner collided with the left front of the GMC. As a result of the impact, the Frieghtliners front tire went flat, and the Freightliner traveled into the south shoulder of Hwy 12, according to the CHP report.
The GMC sustained moderate damage, including damage to both left tires and came to rest along the south shoulder of Hwy 12, with its front end facing in a northerly direction.
The driver of the GMC minor injuries, however refused treatment at the scene.
This collision is still under investigation. Alcohol was not believed to be a contributing factor in this collision.
