According to CHP, on January 23, 2013, Margaret Stewart (23) of Wallace was driving a 2008 Honda on Hwy 12 at Haskell Street in Valley Springs at approximately 55 MPH, transporting her son Warren (1).
For unknown reasons, according to the report, Stewart experienced severe pain, which caused her to lose control of the Honda.
The Honda traveled off the roadway and collided with a tree on the south shoulder of Hwy 12.
The force of the collision caused the Honda to overturn. The Honda came to rest on its roof, partially in the E/B lane of Hwy 12 facing a south westerly direction.
Stewart was able to exit the vehicle as well as remove her son from his car seat before emergency personnel arrived.
Margaret was restrained by her seatbelt, while Warren was restrained by an approved car seat.
Due to both occupants being properly restrained, CHP says, both lives were saved. Margaret was transported to Mark Twain Hospital for a complaint of pain to her neck and back.
Warren was taken home by family members with only bruises.
