One of the main problems that the new District 4 Supervisor Debbie Ponte has on her plate is the Wagon Trail project;
otherwise known as the straightening of Hwy 4 between Copperopolis and Angels Camp.
When she was elected, the property owners along that stretch weren't allowing biologists or others from the state to move forward with environmental assessments on the route, and a lot of money was on the line if it was moved out further into the future.
Ponte went right to work, meeting with the owners and found ways to mitigate their worries, ending up with the approval of every landowner.
Of course, now many feel that Ponte is far better at simply getting along with those who feel they could be harmed, unlike Tryon and others in the past.
Supervisor Ponte says :I am very pleased with the progress. It just goes to prove what happens when people can talk face to face."
Now they go searching for red-legged frogs, pink salamanders and purple people eaters. We'll let you know if they find any.
