Kanaka Valley Management Plan

The Mother Lode Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management for the Kanaka Valley Management Plan and Decision Record has been released.

The plan is posted on the web at www.blm.gov/ca/motherlode

The Kanaka Valley Management Plan was developed through a community-based planning process.

Kanaka Valley is located in western El Dorado County, California. The habitat consists of a mixture of chapparral, oak woodland and riparian vegetarian types.

Kanaka Valley has a high diversity of plants and animals; some of the rare plant species that grow there are found nowhere else in the world.

"The BLM considers the Kanaka Valley Management Plan to be the best approach to fulfill BLM policy requiremens, honor the intent of the acquisition, conserve rare plant species and other sensitive resources, and balance community input from planning meetings," said Bill Haigh, Mother Lode Field Office manager.
