He was the middle of a lifelong tight knit group of siblings, Barbara Byerly and Harold "Red" Allen.
Ken and his family lived in Pearl Harbor on the fateful day in 1941. Ken recalled the days of racing to the Air Raid shelter and black out curtains as a young boy during WWII.
After serving his country in the Philippines as a SeaBee, Ken was a proud lifetime brother of the Operating Engineers, working in Alaska during the famed pipeline heyday, in Washington DC to support labor relations.
He ended up on the front page of the Wall Street Journal because of his expertise in this area.
Ken was hand-picked to be a participant in Harvard University's Trade Union program.
He ended his career giving back to his community with the development of the Stockton Lincoln High Engineering Construction Academy, a program designed to help develop jobs and skilled labor within the building trades.
Ken was also a member of the Calaveras County Civil Grand Jury for 2009-2010.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Claireed; his children Kathryn Lorang (Jim), Karen Sigman (Mike), Kellie Allyn, LaDonna Seeley, Craig Goltz (Jayleyn), his grandchildren Alex Sigman, Lacy Sigman, Cassie Goltz, Scott Midgley and Joshua Morales and the many other children who knew him only as Grandpa Ken.
A Celebration of Life will be held February 9, 2013 at 11 AM at Good Samaritan Community Covenant Church, Valley Springs.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Stockton Lincoln High Construction Academy or any charity of your choice.
