In 2012 ago I sent an e-mail to Stanislaus Forest personnel Susan Skalski, Teresa McClung and Sara Fribert, requesting information on the attempted noise evaluation
from Candy Rock Quarry.
Not one of them responded. A neighborhood near the quarry is at risk, and by not responding, the message is the FS does not care.
Finally I heard from CURFU (a local org. trying to get the FS to relocate shooters to a site that does not impact neighborhoods) and found that it actually did happen.
Another source revealed there was some "secret" monitoring conducted for noise near the quarry over several weeks. but that it had been leaked by one of the shooters' friends in the Forest Service, so the outcome was some very quiet days.
No surprise there. Then through a news report, a cover up--not sent into the Sheriff by one report, and through another that the Sheriff's department was told by the FS it wasn't needed -- of the illegal explosion at the quarry over Sunday (a no shooting day) on Memorial Day Weekend.
Turns out the FS deputy was somewhere else on the forest and could not get to the site to ticket the perps.
But when she did show up, it was reported that the shooters were shooting safely. Illegally, but safely
Hello? Some enforcement!!!
It's more than a crying shame the Forest administration either doesn't care or thinks it's OK if people have to move from their homes to get away from battlefield like shooting noise as well as safety issues, and it's OK to have a marginal enforcement who will slap the hands of errant shooters and not bother the Sheriff.
The next possiblility is something like the photo in the link below: a fire in Utah caused by target shooters.

Is this what we have to look forward to -- another fire because there is lack of due diligence on the part of the Stanislaus Forest administration?

You know I see you complaining that the USFS did not contact the S.O. regarding shooting during restricted hours or the "illegal explosion" you refer to, why don't you call them yourself? Am sure their number is in the yellow pages somewhere. Your argument is so one sided. You sound as if that's all LE should do all day is make sure there's peace and quiet in your little peice of the world. Half the time LE responds to reports of loud explosions & shooting then it turns out not to be at Candy Rock at all...such as last year when a comet came into the atmosphere & a loud boom was hear all over the county, I saw in the sheriff's log online that people called & complained that it came from Candy Rock! That's just one example. LE has many other responsibilities as well. Am guessing the reason the USFS hasn't put an order in place to restrict shooting at Candy Rock all together is because there are just as many folks who want it left open for target shooting. As far as the FS "not caring" well you're not the only person with a dog in this fight...it's public land after all, and they have to manage it for ALL, not just you or your neighbors. Why did you move to that location anyway? It's like moving in next to an established airport then complaing about the noise & trying to have it shut down. Your argument is one sided & self centered in my opinion.
Have you considered taking up target shooting yourself?
First of all, I take up no bad habits that offend or disrupt my neighbors lives. Only certain kinds of people will do that. If i want to shoot, i can go to a legal gun range like Angels or Mother Lode.
You prefer the illegal and disruptive type of bad habit. What others do you have?
First of all, target shooting at Candy Rock is clearly not "illegal", you have that and most of your other "facts" blatantly WRONG. And I find your lack of respect for others right to use public land in a way that fits their pleasure very offensive in itself.
Unlike you, I don't use the public land to abuse residents. your attitude is exactly the problem with this. You shooters are not gods of the forest; infact you are the killers of the forest, not to mention the firestarters. No respect for others. I heard that Texas wants you!!!
Did you read the neutral assessment done last year. THIS IS NOT A LEGAL SHOOTING RANGE!!!
THIS RANGE SHOULD BE CLOSED!!! TRASH, BOTHERING RESIDENTS
UNCONTROLLED SHOOTERS!!!!
That's a stretch...overreactive, exaggerated and full of inaccuracies, just like a large part of your argument with Candy Rock(public land) being used for target shooting. At the end of the day, you can only blame yourself for purchasing a home next to public land which has many potential uses, logging, OHVs & target shooting, all of which may create noise, none of which is meant to "abuse residents". There are already restricted timeframes in place for target shooters at that location, so it sounds like the FS is at least making an effort to appease residents & just because you can hear gunfire, does not mean people are shooting unsafely. If people are breaking the law and/or timeframe restrictions for shooting, then yes, report it. But ranting about target shooters being "firestarters, killers, gods" or whatever else your imagination has come up with doesn't help anyone. Get your facts straight, then make your argument. By the way, I don't even own a gun. And as far as Texas goes, I live in a nice quiet neighborhood, am happy to say, so no thanks!
