Louisiana Republican Governor is widely known for his unfortunate response to the President's State of the Union speech and couple of years ago.
At the NFL's Gridiron Dinner, however, he knocked it out of the park, (er, between the goalposts).
He started out with jokes about HIS PEOPLE, the MINORITY, saying "As you know, my people are one of our nation's most accomplished inority groups - doctors - lawyers - business owners...and of course, I'm referring to the Republican Party."
He even got better, saying " They say this is a place where you can come and tell jokes about the President, poke fun at yourself...set political ambition aside and just generally say anything you want."
Kind of like the Romney campaign.
The audience loved it, even when he told them "I spoke to Mitt the other day...told him I was doing the Gridiron Dinner...he said the 47% of you can't take a joke."
He even made a Christie joke, saying "What chance does a skinny guy with a dark complexion and a funny nae have to get elected president of the United States?
The truth is - I am too skinny to run. At least that's what my friend Chris Christie keeps telling me.?"
It was the best campaign speech he has ever made in most of the audience's opinion.
