The Calaveras Unified School District Superintendent Campbell and Board member Sherry Reusche both came to speak at the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
They had previously spoken against the "Safe Route to Schools" planned by Supervisor Spellman at Jenny Lind Elementary.
They have changed their minds, however, and are now in favor of the project with one caveat; that there be no crosswalks placed on Baldwin.
Spellman had previously adamantly insisted that the school district had no choice and that he was going ahead with it as planned. Therefore, he won.
It now has nothing to do with the safest route to school, but how politics is played. Very sad! It was approved by the Board of Supervisors.
As Chair Callaway stated, it's better to take the money and use it for something than to give it back to CalTrans so someone else can use it.
