As of Monday, April 1, 2013, at 8 AM the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of the California Departent of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) and Tuolune county Fire Department (TCFD) will join forces with Groveland Comunity Services District and begin a new cooperative fire protection agreement to provide fire and emergency services.
The five firefighters, currently employees of the Groveland Community Services District, will become CalFire employees when the cooperative agreeent begins on April 1, 2013 according to a press release.
Minimum staffing at the Groveland fire station will be 2 firefighters on duty 24 hours a day.
Acting Tuolumne Calaveras Unit Chief Steve Lawshe says, "We are very excited to welcome the Groveland Fire District and its firefighters into the CalFire /TCFD faily and look forward to a great relationship to provide fire protection to residents of the District and surrounding area."
Personnel from the three departents have been working on details during the transition phase for the past several months to ensure a smooth transfer of operations Monday.
The Groveland Community Services District serves an area of approximately 15 square miles including Groveland, Pine Mountain Lake and Big Oak Flat in Southern Tuolumne county.
In addition, the department responds outside the district assisting Tuolumne and Mariposa county Fire Departments, Cal Fire and the US Forest Service. The district responds annually to over 500 calls.
