Over the past few weeks, many parents and the Sierra Sentinel began wondering about newly
elected Calaveras Unified School District Board of Trustee Greg Gustafson.
Apparently, he is no longer allowed on the Planning Commission, due to a conflict of interest, but he has been attending Board of Supervisor meetings.
As we pointed out last week, Gustafson was very negative about his fellow trustees at the last Board of Supervisors meeting. Gustafson was furious when we wrote about it!!
He had complained that the other trustees coming to the Board of Supervisors meeting during Public Comments was improper, and he made negative comments about them.
Mr. Gustafson wrote an email that to us that he ran for office because he has concerns about spending, but says the alternative "safe route to school" the Board of Trustees spoke of, is not safe.
What the correlation between he and Darren Spellman is, concerns many residents in the school district?
Spellman has repeatedly insulted Calaveras Unified, who fired him, and well-respected trustee Sherri Reusche.
Spellman has even hinted that he pulled his children out of Jenny Lind School because of Reusche, but would not elaborate, stating it would be embarrassing.
Then Gustafson and his wife began complaining about their email address, who they say they claim they never gave out, it being used. Huh?
Instead of worrying about the important things in the Calaveras Unified School District, Mr. Gustafson seems to be easily distracted into unimportant battles he creates himself.
Now we understand why we are getting so many complaints about his behavior as a trustee. How will this all end up, who knows, but trying to get a straight answer out of him is pretty much impossible, in our opinion.
To Mr. Gustafson: All that matters is what is best for the children in your school district. If that is not your priority, then you should resign.

Perhaps the Sierra Sentinel should do an in-depth investigation of the schools policies, procedures, learning programs and how the local board votes.
all i know is that the board seems to be doing a good job and care about the children until gustofsen got in here.
Isn't Gustafson questioning fiscal responsibilities, spending and the like?
No, he questions the other trustees! He's not helping the students at all.
Conflict of interest may have been the reason given for Greg leaving the planning commission, but I heard it was either he step down or face criminal charges.
