Mark Templin, of Montana is a Vietnam-era Air Force vet who is 78 years old. He had checked himself in to the Fort Harrison VA Medical Center in 2009 after suffering chest pains.
Templin was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. He went home and made his funeral arrangements and cried a lot.
His son had to stop him from killing himself with his gun, and a hospice nurse took him back to the VA for a re-evaluation. If she hadn't he would never have known the truth.
Templin had been misdiagnosed. In reality he had a series of small strokes and has won a $59,820 lawsuit against the VA.
He got $500 a day per day for the initial severe mental distress and $300 a day until his revised diagnosis.
