On June 14, 2013 CHP reports that David J. Gatt, (68) of Discovery Bay was riding his 2008 Victory motorcycle on Hwy 4 near Chatom Vineyards in Douglas Flat, in the eastbound lane at a stated speed of 55-60 MPH.
Traffic in front of the motorcycle started slowing/stopping due to a vehicle making a right hand turn from the highway into a private driveway.
Gatt observed traffic slowing and stopping directly ahead of him as he applied the motorcycles' brakes.
Gatt lost control of the motorcycle and it began sliding out to the right Due to Gatt's unsafe speed for the conditions at hand, the motorcycle collided onto the roadway and Gatt became fully ejected over the handlebars.
After the impact, the motorcycle was removed from the roadway and Gatt received medical attention from paramedics.
