Letter to the Editor....About the trapper

   Dear Editor:

My husband and I were just going to make a comment on your article about getting rid of the Trapper, but do you realize all of the facts?

The people who benefit most from this Trapper are the people in the county who own the most land and therefore run cattle, goats, etc.

These are the same people who are almost all in the Williamson Act.  That means they pay NO PROPERTY TAXES on that land.

But they still want US, the taxpayers, to pay for THEM to have a hired killer to come at their beckoned call and protect their livestock.

We are against having a trapper at all.  Let the ranchers or any others who want a hired killer, join together in a fund, paying so much per acre, to protect their animals with a trapper.

Those who don't pay, don't get to use it, and that is all the money there is. Why should we have to pay for EVERYTHING for ranchers, who own all the land and don't even pay TAXES?

Something is very wrong!  If Supervisor Ponte continues to try and keep this so that her own family gets protection for their herds, I will oppose her in the next election.

These landowners receive welfare from the government and subsidies from the government as it is, and yet they are the first to complain about others being on welfare.

If we had our choice, we would eliminate the Williamson Act and make them EARN a living the way the rest of us do.

Ms. Ponte, we will be watching you. Are you the new Tryon?

The Williamson Act is a reduction in property taxes It helps keep Ag property in Ag use, rather than housing subdivisions. The trapper also works in the communities.

Yes but it is still an entitlement program of sorts. So cattle ranchers who make money off of cattle get paid to keep making money off of cattle. ??? No problem with ranchers making money...but these same ranchers are often first and foremost to be critical of "entitlement programs" such as those that go for artists continuting to make their living at art. Get it??
