We just spoke with Brian Moss, Air Pollution Control District Manager for Calaveras County. He
told us that he and the County Department of Health will decide if they should issue an advisory for the smoke we are receiving from fires.
He also said that he believes we could also be getting smoke from a fire in the Redding area and there are several fires in Oregon that could be bringing us more smoke.
As of right now, no official warning for those with sensitive respiratory issues has been given. We will let you know.
Mr. Moss also answered a question one of our readers asked "Is Calaveras County going to be blamed for bad air because of this smoke?"
Moss said that was a very good question, because we often get penalized for bad air than comes up from the valley. In the case of fires and smoke, however, he said we will not be penalized.
