U.S. Army Sgt.Matthew William Maddox
U.S. Army Sgt. Matthew William Maddox of Wallace, died July 5, 2013. Born July 25, 1990, Matt lived in Wallace until he left for Army Basic Training in 2008.
Matt attended Calaveras High School where he was active on the wrestling and track team. As a member of Boy Scout Troop 302, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
As a high school senior, Matt joined the Delayed Entry Program for the United States Army in August of 2007.
Upon his graduation in June of 2008, he signed his enlistment papers as a Fire Support Specialist.
After completing Basic Training and AIT, Matt went to Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia.
Upon graduation from Airborne Jump School he was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in Vicenza, Italy.
Deployed twice to Afghanistan, he was due to separate from the Army on August 13, 2013.
Matt was in the process of pursuing a career in Law Enforcement with his goal to become a California Highway Patrol Officer.
Matt is survived by his mother Suzy Maddox, father Mike Maddox and brother Mike Maddox, Jr.
Members of the 173rd ABCT are escorting Sgt. William Matthew Maddox from the San Andreas Memorial Chapel at 8 AM July 26, 2013 to Arlington National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest on July 30, 2013.
