As fire activity remains at a high level across the State, nearly 7500 firefighters remain assigned to
a dozen large wildfires.
The Rim Fire, near Yosemite National Park, continues to actively burn at a rapid rate. Yesterday, additional evacuation advisories were put into effect for Tuolumne City and Ponderosa Hills, increasing the number of homes threatened to 4500.
The Rim Fire is now the 16th largest fire in California's recorded history.
Yesterday, two new fires were sparked: The Deer Fire 10 miles east of Los Molinos in Tehama County and the Fish Fire 50 miles northeast of Springville in Tulare County.
CalFire has activated one of its Incident Management Teams for the fast-moving Deer Fire. Winds in the northeastern portion of the state could pose a challenge as afternoon winds of 15 to 30 MPH with higher gusts could fan several of the large fires.
With the continued fire activity CalFire is asking all residents and visitors to be extra fire safe this weekend and to take steps to prevent any new wildfires.
