UPUD Installing new Water Lines in Murphys

We've received a few comments from residents of Murphys and from those who commute up and down the hill every day, about the digging going on near Murphys Creek and Hwy 4 in Murphys.

UPUD is installing new larger water lines in that area and it is a large project. They apologize for the inconvenience caused by necessary construction so near Hwy 4.

We spoke with Bill Eltringham, who is in charge of the project at UPUD. He explained that every precaution has been taken to protect the creek from runoff or other pollutants from the project. A fence was constructed in front of the creek.

Also he stated that Caltrans is at the site, water quality personnel from the State are present to assure nothing gets into the creek, and Native American personnel are all on site to see that nothing of Native American history is destroyed.  He added that an arrowhead was found.

As to the complaints about the dust, he said that they will spray as much as they can to stop the dust at the end of the day, but they cannot spray so much that it runs into the creek.

On a final note, it will be another three weeks before the project is completed. If you have any questions or problems you can notify UPUD at their office in Murphys.
