According to Southern Area Blue Team Incident Commander Mike Wilkins " Fighting the Rim Fire has been a costly effort, but the communities, infrastructure and natural resources saved have proved the success of the joint leadership team directing the effort."
"The cost of the fire is huge," said Wilkins. " We've spent a significant amount of money, but saved far more values at risk than we spent. We regret we lost some structures and that resources have been impacted, but we're feeling good about the way we've impacted the local economy."
Nancy Koepernick, who represents CalFire at the Rim Fire called the firefighting effort "one big family" which managed to work out any differences and meld their missions.
"I believe that if we had broken up and let CalFire handle state issues, the Park run Park issues and the Forest Service run Forest issues, we'd have been far less successful and the fire would been far bigger," said Koepernick.

Aside from suspect headline writing, it's good to read Mr. Wilkin's assessment. And I have no reason NOT to believe him.
Now you folks who will be ripping this article, please have back up to your comments.
Calling out those involved in the fire fighting process and accusing them of mismanagement, requires more than hearsay and personal vendetta.
Sorry, but I don't have any friends or enemies among these folks, but it does sound like they have been on a loonngg drunk when they speak, doesn't it?
the guys on the line should be drinking, but not these management types.
I must admit, the quotes don't make a lot of sense. What are they trying to say, anyway?. Perhaps a public speaking course, or some management degrees in something other than watching campers.
Come on, admit it. the USFS has a problem in management; whether for fires or handling problems of other types.
This is no different from bad management in all parts of government. Look at Calaveras County, for instance. Most of the appointed heads of depts. are only there to snitch for certain supervisors! same in almost all government. Not quality, just loyalty.
Who is going to run the Hetch-Hetchy issue. Come the first rains, silt and sediment will enter the water storage reservoir.
