There are many safety concerns about Christmas trees, and CalFire says it starts with how you pick one at a lot.They recommend you do the tap test.
If any needles fall off when you lift it and tap it on the ground it is already too dry to be safe.
When you take a tree home, cut off at least 2 inches above the other cut. then put it in water immediately so it will continue to pull moisture into its foliage.
Add water every day. Keep it away from any heat source. And remove the tree if it becomes too dry; it's not worth having a fire.
