January 20, 2014: Scuttlebutt tells us that Tom Garcia, the Director of Public Works for Calaveras County, is resigning, effective later this month.
Garcia has been sought after by several other agencies in California, and the County really didn't want to lose him.

that's a shame. best public works director this county ever had.
That's true! He's the one who is responsible for cleaning up the corruption at COG too, isn't he?
these idiot supes wouldn't give him enough money to hire a grantwriter. Callaway was getting even with him for her being removed forcibly from the Council of Governments. As long as this county is anti-growth, anti-job, anti-business in general we will from now on always get stuck with the bottom of the garbage can.
Some people didn't like him for political reasons. I heard that the union workers didn't like him because he made them work for their pay.
I think every one of these comments is delusional.
And a miserable ex-employee chimes in?
The county's bump up in pay set a new pay scale with vehicle for someone closer to his home to meet or exceed. It's all about money, prestige and retirement benefits. Now the stupes can reduce the wage, eliminate the vehicle perk. Put things back in Calaveras perspective, the county is going broke.
The upside, three of the supervisors that violated the law are now a black stain of Calaveras history. Who is next? The two up for election now.
they're gonna miss Garcia/
Mr. Garcia provided this county with a lot of public works grant money.
That's a whole lot better than the existing BOS is doing for jobs. OOOOh wait, the bos has to approve the grant applications. That's the closest to creating jobs they will get.
The legacy of Mr. Garcia
Wrecked multiple county vehicles;
Rude and disrespectful to staff;
Always looking for another job;
Highly paid and yet rarely in the office;
Boastful about all he has done and how much money he has secured but with no evidence to support those claims;
Good by and Good riddance Mr. Garcia.
Go back through the agendas, you will see how much grant money, Mr. Garcia was responsible for bringing in. He earned his keep. Some say that's the reason for his pay raise in 2012. We'll never know if it was a closed session contractual discussion when he was hired.
