Evelyn Faye Wilson passed away on Monday, January 7, 2014. She was 80 years old.
She was born Evelyn Geto
on August 4, 1933, one of twelve children born to Laura Jeff and Pete Geto, on the Six Mile Rancheria of Miwuk Indians, near Vallecito.
Evelyn married Lawrence Wilson Sr in 1950, took care of many of her nieces and nephews from a young age and continued to have a close relationship with them throughout her life.
She was a homemaker, but went back to school and graduated as the oldest at the time, to do so in 1999.
Evelyn was also instrumental in Miwuk language classes and beading lessons, doing whatever she could to preserve her Miwuk culture.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lawrence E. Wilson, Sr. daughter Ellen Wilson, son Lawrence E. Wilson Jr (Christy), granddaughters Galadrial Day (Brian), Lauren Wilson (Bill), Evelyn Wilson (Bobby) and her grandson Anthony Wilson (Dawn).
Evelyn had several great-grandchildren and too many people called her "mom" and "Gram" to list. She was loved by many.
She was predeceased by all of her siblings and her daughter Sally Wilson.
The viewing will be Monday January 13, 2014 from 1 PM to 6 PM at Angels Camp Memorial Chapel and Graveside services and Burial will be at 11:30 AM on Tuesday January 14, 2014 at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.
