UPDATE January 18, 2014: Calaveras Supervisor Chair Debbie Ponte sent us an email saying: "I have no comment one way or the other on this situation." referring to the
Peter Racz comments made by Edson.
If you recall, Edson was the person who nominated Ponte (instead of Spellman) in the upset election Tuesday to make her the 2014 Chair, so this is not totally unexpected.
UPDATE: We have requested as her first act as Chair of the Calaveras Board of Supervisors, that Debbie Ponte admonish Cliff Edson for his improper behavior and attempts to stop negative public comment and freedom of speech.
When Peter Racz comes before the Calaveras Board of Supervisors, he doesn't mince words. I don't always agree with him, but I defend his right to say it.
I feel his 1st Amendment rights were violated by Calaveras Supervisor
Cliff Edson, who chastised him, telling him he was not allowed to use the word "whore" in making statements.
When Racz said, "Prostitutes then", Edson again chastised him, saying "I don't like that one either."
This is clearly a violation of Mr. Racz 1st Amendment Rights. Supervisor Edson needs to keep his judgmental religious comments to himself. In an email we suggested he find a religion that is not so judgmental of others.

I think each Supe has a book they wrote on what they will allow you to say or not. You are right! They are becoming Nazis
I've heard this is being done all over the US. Using "civility" and religion to stop people from talking when they don't like what criticism they are speaking. What has happened to this country.
I heard that there is a lawsuit in Santa Cruz and that the City of Angels Camp physically removed someone who was saying things they didn't like. What's going on?

Didnt' you know that Cliff is a little over the top on religion. And judgmental, yes!! what can we do about it? Do they have that kind of power?
I can see all kinds of problems with this Board. They start out by following Callaway to throw out Spellman into the garbage bin and then start cutting back on our right to free speech.
I think we better be getting used to it. The government is moving more and more that way. They have our emails, out phone calls and now our texts. it only makes sense that they will stop us from speaking against them at meetings.

Are you kidding? Callaway has been talking for months how she was working to make sure Spellman never got to be chair. She can't grandstand now and pretend shw was against it. She knw she had the three votes she needed.
I can't stand Spellman, but if this is true, it makes this board more corrupt than the last one.
I tried to watch the video last night, but fell asleep. They didn't elect Spellman even as vice-chair?
What makes Cliff Edson so much better than Spellman. Its the same thing he did as Spellman. He shouldn't be a chair or vice-chair either.
If you are in the right club, you can get away with anything. Callaway has the power and likes Edson, so he can screw up and get away with it, unlike Spellman. What is ponte going to do. Probably nothing, just like with Lake Tulloch. So what if its a toilet.
Edson seems like a nice guy.

I'm surprised you haven't brought up Edson's hypocrisy of getting the most bang for the buck, regarding meeting schedules.
How much did it cost the county to hold a special meeting in Angels Camp at a private business facility on Thursday, two days after the regularly scheduled meeting. Another special meeting, WHAT!?
We must be reasonable, most of the property tax money is in. Tax & Spend mentality. Can you patiently wait for the big push for tax increases?
Edson is just a fake pretense of caring. He's in it for the money.
Edson keeps talking of fun. All the campaign things to keep himself in the public eye. Going to parades, chamber of commerce mixers. What the heck does that do for his constituents?
Three years is a long time, but it will go by fast.
Maybe he should go back to flipping burgers for a living.

If you review the recently updated bos meeting policies, you will find numerous civility positions that infringe upon if not violates the Constitution of the State of California Article 1, sec. 2. (a) Every person may freely speak, write, and publish his or her sentiments on all subjects, being responsible for the abuse of this right. A law may not restrain or abridge liberty of speech or press.
This county's Board of Supervisors continually violates the people's Constitutionally guaranteed rights. People of the same ideology keep getting elected. Why? Are we the people that stupid or just complacent?
That is nothing compared to them brainwashing our children by Kathy Northington in the schools. Will they always be afraid to speak out or protest? That's what they are trying for. What a disappointment the Democrats are to our free society.
