Dear Editor:
I was reading about Supervisor Edson's chastising a speaker for using the word "whore" in a political context and decided
I need to comment.
The elected officials in this country have been limiting and in this case clearly taking away our first amendment right to free speech for some time.
But let's stick to Calaveras County. We are aware that our local elected officials all believe they should be revered and that they are special and do not ever deserve criticism.
They have stopped having regular monthly meetings using what I consider to be a false excuse of saving money.
They stopped allowing public comments over 1/2 hour in length total, but these elected offficials are allowed to rant on and on about what they believe should happen.
Now they use the CAO to further cut our the public: no minutes to speak of, agendas coming out late on Fridays so that absolutely no research can be done at the county before the meetings.
Over and over again, they push the word "civility" on the voters, which in their eyes means, "NO CRITICISM, EVER".
Edson has pushed this way over the top. Everyone knows he's extremely religious and his unbridled criticism of anyone for using a word his religion doesn't approve of, is reprehensible!
If this man is not admonished by the Board and he does not apologize, it is yet another sad day for the voters, and America in general. Some people are just not meant to be elected officials.
Thank you Sentinel, for telling us about this!!!
