UPDATE on January 15, 2014: We just obtained a copy of a letter from attorney Thomas Meyer to the Calaveras Superior Court.
The letter, dated yesterday, requests that they drop the February 4, 2014 hearing, which was requested to set aside the legal fees assessed to their case.
A phone call to Mr. Meyer's office has still not been returned.

Apparently unhappy that Judge Smith awarded the Copper Cove Homeowners Association legal fees in a case that had been in his court, Marilynn Meyer, represented by her husband Thomas Meyer, has yet another court date in February
to have the order to pay the $22,000 in fees set aside.
In yet another document the Sentinel obtained, a complaint about Judge Thomas Smith regarding the recent case, and a note on the complaint that a related complaint was made about Judge John Martin and initialed by M. Meyer.
A phone call to attorney Meyer's office went unanswered. The apparently all started after the Copper Cove Homeowners attempted to get a restraining order against Marilynn Meyer.
When the judge decided that violence was not a factor and the restraining order was denied, Mrs. Meyer filed a lawsuit against the Homeowners Association, then dropped the suit just before it was due to go to court, costing the Homeowners substantial legal fees.
The Homeowners went to court anyway and the Meyers attempted to get the lawsuit re-instated. The judge denied that request.
Called a SLAPP suit, the Homeowners filed a case against the Meyers to recoup their legal fees in what they and the judge apparently called a "frivolous" lawsuit and won.

Follow the bouncing ball folks. Meyers file a Law Suite for 1.4 Million Dollars against the HOA. The HOA legal team tells Meyers to drop the bogus law suit or they will ramp up to defend & slap the Meyers with the legal fees if they win! Meyers refuse to drop law suit. The HOA legal team ramps up to defend as the court date approaches. Right before the court date the Meyers drop the law suit. This is only AFTER the HOA has spent thousands preparing to defend. The HOA’s legal team follows threw with what they told the Meyers & continues with asking for their legal fee’s in court. The Meyers try to re-instate their case but are denied. Both party’s show up to court and both party’s present the case. The Judge awards Copper Cove HOA with $18,500 + in legal fees. The Meyers file to have the Judge’s ruling thrown out and bring copper cove back to court. Yes there is lot’s more drama & allegations (from the Meyers) to this story but that’s pretty much the Nuts & Bolts of it. The Meyers like to tell tall tails to draw attention to their pathetic plight. So Im sure this story will continue on. Just happy to see it’s all been laid out and the courts called it like they saw it.
What was the cause of action?
