Rancho Calaveras Supervisor Spellman shamed

   UPDATE:  January 15, 2014:  We asked Supervisor Spellman if he had a comment for the record about his being intentionally passed over to become 2014 Calaveras Supervisors Chair.

  Spellman states that "I take Supervisor Edson's words as truthful, that based on Ponte's years of experience as the Mayor of Angels he believes she is the best person to be chair this year.

   He also shared with me personally, that having beat Tofanelli in their supervisor race he thought being board chair had been a disadvantage that left him open for difficult criticism during public comment periods.

   I concur with Supervisor Edson on that point. I believe Tofanelli was hurt more than helped by being board chair in his election year.

   So people will read into it what they want to believe, but I still respect my fellow board embers and will work diligently to help our county through these difficult times."

   The regular Calaveras Supervisors meeting was held this AM and as the first meeting of the year, they pick the new chair.

   Today's meeting was different,

however. As Callaway had planned, no one nominated District 5 Supervisor Darren Spellman, who was vice-chair in 2013 to be Chair.

   In fact, as expected, Supervisor Callaway offered to remain Chair one more year. Everyone laughed.

  Then, later in the meeting, Ponte was nominated and elected to be Chair and Edson was made Vice-Chair.

     Spellman had been totally shamed as a Supervisor. Never before have we seen a Vice-Chair passes over intentionally to be Chair at the Calaveras Board.
