WATER WARS!! Who gets Calaveras County WATER?

As most of our readers are aware, California is in the midst of "water wars". Especially small counties like Calaveras are intimidated by the "big guys"
such as EBMUD, and other large water companies.

Very wisely, EBMUD (East Bay Municipal Water District) of  the Bay Area, came in many years ago and bought water rights for its customers from our small (and unwise) county water representatives.

On the Stanislaus side, the Modesto Irrigation District (or TRI-DAM) gained rights through an agreement with the US Bureau of Reclamation to get water from Melones at a level that keeps their dam, Lake Tulloch at a full level, regardless of how low Melones gets.

We decided to research this fact due to our diligent readers asking the question, "Why is Lake Tulloch always full, although Melones is very low?"

The agreement is from 1988 and assures TRI-DAM or the Modesto Irrigation District, which supplies water to farmers and residents in the Modesto area, that they will always have a plentiful supply of water.

So why did CCWD call a meeting in San Andreas about water in the first place?  More to come?

What was that meeting last week about, anyway?
