According to CHP on February 6, 2014 Blaze Casey (20) of Wilseyville, was driving a 1979 Ford northbound on Skull Flat Road in West Point at an unknown speed
approaching a temporary CalFire/Calaveras County road closure.
The road closure was due to routine maintenance (tree trimming and clearing) and was manned by CalFire personnel (Vallecito work camp), Calaveras County Public Works personnel and California Department of Corrections inmate/workers.
Anthony Tapia, Jr. (37) of the Vallecito Work Camp was standing beside and adjacent to a third vehicle involved, a Ford F650 with an attached Bandit wood chipper.
Casey's Ford entered the closure and subsequently struck Tapia, who was propelled into the rear of the Ford F650.
Casey's Ford continued forward and struck the left rear of the Ford F650, pinning Tapia underneath both vehicles.
After the collision, the Casey's Ford was moved in order to access the injured Tapia. The Ford F650 came to rest on its wheels partially blocking Skull Flat Rd.
This collision is currently under investigation.
