Calaveras Sheriff's Office Caught in Scam??

At the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors budget hearings on February 25, 2014, Calaveras Sheriff's Office Captain Macedo was asked several times about grants.
It seems that "historically" the Sheriff's Office is keeping grant money advanced by the taxpayers out of the General Fund, and NOT repaying the taxpayers when their grant money comes in.

Finally Supervisor Edson came right out and asked "If we front you the money for a grant in one year that you don't receive payment on till the next fiscal year, do you repay us or the County General Fund when you get the money?"

Although Macedo at first was evasive, he eventually said that they would repay them. Shockingly, he did not say that they have always repaid the taxpayer for advances received.

Is the Grand Jury filing charges against them. why wasn't the public told before this. This Sheriff will never be re-elected.

Hmmmm, there has to be ledger entries as to payment to Sheriff's budget, receipt of grants by the Sheriff's office and repayment to the county by the Sheriff's office.
WHAAAT am I thinking? Welcome to Calaveras County. Where you pay more to receive less.

This is far worse than anyone realizes. people at other county offices have been cut back, furloughed, etc. at least in part because the Sheriff not only double-dipped, but really did SCAM the taxpayers.

Callaway's corruption is part of this, she should be recalled!

Never saw Captain Macedo stammer for words before. Got him dead away, and the rest of the corrupt bunch at the Sheriff's Office.

What can we, TAXPAYERS, expect? We will see a reduction of employees, unemployment rate goes up, or a reduction of county office hours and possibly reduction of days open.
Calaveras is a prime example of "government gone wild". All this prevailing wage nonsense without methods to cause completion in a timely fashion, without delays of 8 years (General Plan, FEMA,etc.).
Can zero based, performance based, management accountability budgeting be put into place? Hell no, it's to late. What we knew as America is almost gone. It's going to be interesting to see how all those elected and appointed officials who have jumped ship for retirement will survive the collapse of their retirement system when no money is available. Of course the same will apply to those subject to Social Security, when the government has the audacity to lift the broken lock box lid to see the box is empty.
We got the government the majority of voters voted for.
One last alternative, HIGHER TAXES! Can you say, POUND SAND!
