There is no question that during Calaveras County budget hearings things come out that you may not hear at any other time.
While Chair Ponte asked for "civility", the liberal term for "no questions, no criticism",
there was no question that the Calaveras Board of Supervisors were the "uncivil" elephants (although we call them donkeys) in the room.
For instance, District 5 Supervisor Darren Spellman angrily attacked and blamed the well-respected and unopposed for re-election Calaveras Assessor for his $7 million deficit.
He stated that she should be assessing everyone's property at FULL value, not ASSESSED value, and therefore they would have more of our tax money to spend. (actually, a lot more) No question Spellman has become a "TAX and SPEND" liberal.
It is clear that Spellman does NOT care about the taxpayer and therefore the voters. He WILL be voted out of office in JUNE, in our opinion.

It is clear, Spellman knows nothing about property taxation. So why doesn't he pay his factored base year value, instead of his enrolled value? That is if the house is in his name?
I wonder, if Spellman is defeated this election, will he come to the BOS meetings to offer his insider public comments?
Did anyone notice Rancho resident Peter Race tell the Supes they need to cut their pay. They hardly work as it is. I agree with Mr. Race.
Well, for myself, I hope we get someone with common sense like Steve Kearney. we all know him well and he will represent us without insanity.
Mr. Kearney is approachable and very interesting to talk to. Another important point, Mr. Kearney listens.
