Senator Berryhill's violations sustained by Judge

   Judge Lew released a statement today, sustaining the charges against state Senator Tom Berryhill and brother Bill Berryhill and the Stanislaus and San Joaquin Republican Central Committees for their part in an apparent money-laundering scheme that was reported to the Fair Political Practices Commission.

   After reviewing testimony, documents and emails, Judge Lew stated in his 44 page report that "The violations were serious and deliberate. By their nature the violations involved the intention to conceal, deceive or mislead."

   "Tom Berryhill's two contributions to the county central committees were made with the clear understanding that the monies would be contributed to Bill Berryhill," Judge Lew wrote.

   The FPPC meets in April to consider the Judges' recommendations and make a decision on fines to be levied.
