Long time Hathaway Pines resident Jerry D. Sainz passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 at home in the loving care of his two sons, Robert
and Jim Sainz. He was 83.
Jerry was born in Line Pine on December 18, 1930 to Cruz M. Sainz and Frances Baxter. He spent his youth there and joined the Marines when he was 17.
Afterward he returned to the High Sierras where he lived and worked. He married Patricia Seymour on June 23, 1956 in Reno, Nevada.
They began their family of three boys and at the same time Jerry began his career with Caltrans. The family moved from one end of California to the other as Jerry advanced in his career.
He retired in 1987 as Superintendent at Angels Camp District 10. Prior to retirement Jerry and Pat enjoyed travelling with their friends in an RV club.
Jerry was often designated caravan lead man. Jerry was an avid hunter. He and Pat enjoyed their annual trip to Wyoming with fellow hunters and almost always brought meat home, where they would cut and wrap it.
They spend seven summer seasons in Alaska as Camp Hosts for the US Forestry. They thoroughly enjoyed the country, the people and the fishing.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Patricia on July 4, 2014. He is survived by sons William Mitchell (Lisa) Sainz of Des Moines, Iowa, Robert D. Sainz of Hathaway Pines and James P. (Kathy) Sainz of Hathaway Pines, grandchildren Zackary (Jackie Sainz of Des Moines, Iowa and Joseph A Sainz of Hathaway Pines; great-grandchildren Coby and Jack Sainz of Des Moines, Iowa and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Mr. Sainz will be buried in the Mono Lake Cemetery in Lee Vining.
