According to Sonora Police Department, on April 11, 2014 they received a call from an auto dealership in Redding that a vehicle that had been stolen
had a GPS tracking to indicate it was in front of the Courthouse in Sonora.
Officers responded and located the maroon 2001 Mitsubishi, which had different license plates on it. A female subject identified at Theresa Castillo (45) approached the car and claimed that her husband had purchased it for $200 earlier in the day.
She indicated they had purchased it in Redding so that her husband could make a court appearance in Sonora today.
Police contacted the husband identified as James Manning (49) inside and asked him to step outside.
At first, according to police, Manning denied knowing the vehicle was stolen, but later admitted it.
Manning was apparently in court facing a Possession of a Controlled Substance charge.
During a search of the vehicle, methamphetamine, marijuana and paraphernalia were located. Both Castillo and Manning were taken into custody without incident.
They were taken to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for alleged felony Possession of Stolen Property and felony Possession of a Controlled Substance.
